Scheduled Workshops

10-11 a.m.: Is Facebook my friend Information on using social networking sites for your job search.
Christina Vanskike, of Randle Communications, a Sacramento-based public relations and public affairs firm, will share how social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are tools that can either help or deter from your job search.
Social networking sites such as LinkedIn are used by employees to recruit new employees and check applicant’s backgrounds. Vanskike will present ways for job seekers to use social networking sites to their advantage and increase their presence in the job market.


11 a.m.- noon: Using the tools you have in your network to get the job.
Representatives from Heald College and the University of Phoenix will present the “Job Search Workshop.” Geared at helping job seekers brainstorm new ways to identify and seek out potential jobs.
The workshop will emphasize the basics of networking and how to utilize existing relationships to enhance their job search.
The seminar will also help applicants seek out different avenues of their job search and ways to increase their personal marketability.

1-2 p.m.: Why does my resume go into a black hole
Tanja Poley, job developer for Area 4 Agency on Aging in the Senior Employment Program, will help job seekers understand the best tips and tricks to e-mailing resumes.
Poley will clarify where common disconnects are between the “send” button and “you’re hired,” pinpointing the most common mistakes when submitting a resume online.
Poley also provides job-readiness workshops, which teach job seekers application, résumé and interviewing techniques that she will share in her seminar.


1-2 p.m.: Strategies for professionals re-entering the work force.
SacProNet is a local chapter of Experience Unlimited, a volunteer group in California that focuses on marketing professionals.
They will share their expertise and provide today’s professionals with information on how to get back into the work force in 2010.
